Finland's peatlands store billions of tonnes of carbon. When they are drained, that store starts leaking back into the atmosphere. This animation makes the carbon cycle physical: a slice of mire with water, moss and forest, and carbon as countable particles rising and falling.
The models are deliberately tactile — like a museum diorama — so the numbers on screen have something real to hold on to.
